CII to Honor Peter Tirschwell with Connie Award, George Goldman with Lifetime Achievement Award, and Port of Long Beach High School Pathway Program with the Impact Award

Middletown, NJ, July 8, 2025 — The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) has named Peter Tirschwell, Vice President of the Journal of Commerce at S&P Global Market Intelligence, as the 2025 Connie Award recipient for Long Beach. George Goldman, a longtime industry leader with

executive roles at CMA CGM, ZIM, and APL, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his decades of impact across global shipping and logistics.

In addition, CII will present its 2025 Impact Award to the Port of Long Beach High School Pathway Program, an initiative that provides local high school students with a direct introduction to careers in the goods movement sector through internships, mentorships, and hands-on learning. The program

is an exemplary model of workforce development, helping to build a pipeline of diverse, homegrown maritime talent.

The awards will be presented on September 17, 2025, at the Marriott Downtown Long Beach. These prestigious honors recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions have had a lasting impact on the global logistics and maritime industry.

Peter Tirschwell: Shaping Industry Through Journalism, Insight, and Leadership Peter Tirschwell has spent more than three decades chronicling and shaping the global shipping and supply chain conversation. As Vice President of the Journal of Commerce, he leads content across the brand’s publications, websites, events, and products, while also serving as the founder and chair of TPM, the world’s largest container shipping conference, held annually in Long Beach.

Since joining the Journal of Commerce in 1992, Tirschwell has served as reporter, editor-in-chief, and publisher, distinguishing himself as a key voice in the industry. He is a regular columnist and has contributed to The Wall Street Journal, while also appearing on CNBC and being frequently quoted by the BBC, Financial Times, and New York Times.

Following a recent two-year assignment in Singapore, Tirschwell returned to New York to continue leading the Journal of Commerce business. His career reflects a deep commitment to elevating understanding and dialogue across the global supply chain.

The Connie Award, one of the most coveted honors in the transportation industry, is presented to those who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and influence in advancing containerization and intermodalism.

George Goldman: A Lifetime of Global Leadership and Supply Chain Innovation George Goldman will be recognized with the CII Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring a career that spans over 40 years of executive leadership in ocean liner shipping and supply chain logistics.

Goldman most recently served as President and CEO of CMA CGM North America, President of ZIM USA, and held several senior leadership positions, including SVP of Commercial at American President Lines (APL), where he spent nearly 25 years.

His leadership portfolio includes postings across Hong Kong, Singapore, and Shanghai. Goldman played a transformative role in organizations like Greenabl Shippers Association, promoting decarbonization and innovation in global shipping.

Goldman is known for his strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and a deep understanding of international operations. He currently serves on the board of Greenabl and has held numerous leadership and advisory roles, including Chairman of the Transportation and Logistics Committee of the American Chambers of Commerce in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area with Dutch heritage, Goldman combines a cross-cultural perspective with decades of industry experience. He resides in both Nashville, TN, and the Bay Area, and enjoys spending time with his family, especially his three sons and granddaughter.

The Lifetime Achievement Award honors a body of work that has made a sustained and meaningful impact on the industry through leadership, innovation, and global engagement.

CII was founded in 1960 and has been presenting the Connie Award since 1972. It has become the most coveted honor in the field of containerization and its ancillary industries. Among the more than 70 recipients to date are containerization founder Malcom McLean, The Honorable Mario Cordero, Gene Seroka, Bill Shea, Ron Widdows, Joe Gregorio, the late Evergreen Group Chairman Y. F. Chang, James McKenna, Bob Sappio, John Wolfe, Richard Steinke, Captain S.Y. Kuo, Matthew Cox, and Robert Pfeiffer.

At the event, CII will carry out its industry education mission by presenting scholarships to students studying logistics as well as the institutions that are educating our future leaders. Under its auspices, CII has awarded some $1 million toward scholarships since 1972.
