Mike Wilson

An industry veteran who believes in giving back

Mike Wilson has taken an active role in the international shipping and logistics industry in the foreground and background. As the Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Chassis Management (CCM), he is responsible for overseeing all corporate operations and setting the company's strategic direction of the leading cooperative chassis pool manager in the U.S., which is evolving and moving into new areas of the industry under his leadership. Mike has been a member of CII and has served as the Board Nominating Committee since 2020 and received a Connie Award in 2018.

Mike has nearly 45 years of experience working in various leadership positions with multiple ocean carriers, including Hamburg Süd, Atlantic Container Line, United Arab Shipping, Crowley Maritime, and United States Lines. While he was building his career, he also prioritized giving time and energy to associations so he could do his part to help advance the industry.

Mike is a past Board Member and past Chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) as well as Chairman of OCEMA’s Consolidated Chassis Management (CCM) enterprise. In addition, Mike is a past Board Member of the New York Shipping Association, has been an active member on the NY/NJ Council on Port Performance and has served on the FMC’s Supply Chain Innovation Team.

Mike’s full resume of experience and board presence makes him a valuable asset to CII’s board and has proven essential for his role as the Chairman of the Nominating Committee.

“The time I have committed to industry associations has been well spent. My experience working with thought leaders and visionaries—both colleagues and competitors--has given me the right skill set for serving as the Chair of CII’s Nominating Committee,” says Mike.

As Chairman of the Nominating Committee, he works with his team to identify potential candidates and then research their background, experience and education to ensure they are the right fit for CII. The committee presents their recommendations to the board.

“There are many factors taken into consideration when seeking potential board members. Our top priority is to identify forward-thinking industry leaders whose interests align with CII’s mission. We cast a wide net to ensure we have a well-rounded board,” said Mike.

“As part of our approach we have taken a diversification strategy. We  desire representation from different regions such as the Pacific Northwest, the Gulf, Northeast, Southeast and Midwest,” says Mike. “We also look to have functional representation from various sectors such as trucking, rail, ocean carriers, terminal operations, education, and industry consultants.”

Mike values the exchange of ideas and perspective that comes from being part of the CII board. He strongly connects with CII’s core mission that places high value on education and mentorship of the industry’s future up and comers. Over the course of his decades-long career, he has mentored several of his colleagues and has stressed the importance of networking.

“Building connections and learning from your colleagues are critical for career growth in this industry. Committing your time to work with associations provides an opportunity to connect and collaborate with like-minded individuals—this is good for advancing the industry as well as your career,” said Mike. “I feel strongly that it takes a community to build strong leaders and the work we do at CII supports this industry from the inside out.”

Mike not only donates his time to professional causes, but he is especially proud to volunteer his time to organizations that are important to him personally. He is a pillar in his community and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Samaritan Inn, a 501 (c)(3) charity that provides services to unhoused families in Sussex County, New Jersey.

“I feel blessed that I’ve been able to support causes that are important to me both personally and professionally,” said Mike. “Whether I’m serving the industry or the community, volunteering time, insight and expertise to organizations has made my life and my career more meaningful.”
