Giancarlo Morgera
Born in Genoa, Giancarlo followed in the footsteps of his father and graduated from the Merchant Marine School, immediately enrolling in his first shipping line. His passion for the sea allowed him to grow when opportunities presented themselves in the industry. MSC was the turning point in his career, as he fit well into the aggressive growth strategies of the young company. His self-discipline guided him along the way to one of the top positions in the company.
Working in different ranks as Deck Officer from 1981 to 1986 with D’Amico Societa’ di Navigazione in Rome, Giancarlo continued his maritime experience and studies, joining MSC in 1986 in the same capacity. During this time, he received his Captain’s license while he traveled on board MSC to Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. He later started to work in Belgium and the UK as Port Captain, and he joined MSC in the USA in 1989 with the same title in the operation department, coordinating all vessels operations in all ports for MSC, as well as the flag operator, Empremar of Chile, before the latter was fully incorporated by the Swiss Company.
In 1992, GianCarlo continued his career and transitioned into a commercial role as Trade Manager for the relay services, South Africa, and Australia. He then moved to California and establish MSC West Coast as Vice President in 1998, when the megacarrier started to operate the Trans-Pacific service. In 2004, GianCarlo relocated back to New York MSC USA HQ, and he was promoted to Senior Vice President for Trades, followed by his present position as Executive Vice President for all Liner aspects for Export USA.
Giancarlo’s passion remains as strong as ever, ensuring that MSC USA’s excellence will continue to succeed.
